Assigning Contracts ...
As a good business practice, get the right to assign any major contracts. These contracts would specifically fall into the categories of sales, purchase and lease agreements. When you sell your business, or a division of it, this "right" will be important. It could play a decisive role in negotiating and closing a future transaction.
Of course if you're on the other side in a contract - as a supplier, customer or landlord - you may wish to retain the right. In this way you will have some say in determining with whom you will be doing business in future years of the contract.
