Don't Burn Out Performers ...
Outstanding performers can be unwittingly burned out, by being promoted too often into positions they are not quite ready for. This is a tempting way for companies to fill openings for which there is no obvious ideal candidate.
While giving a young star a big promotion into the slot often works, such a move sometimes takes a heavy toll on the manager. The person is forced to spend too much time trying to get up to speed. This means long hours and less time for family and leisure activities - and heavy stress.
