It is dangerous to evaluate service performance the way most companies do, by using averages such as average failure rate or average delivery time. While most customers probably are serviced as the figures indicate, a surprisingly large percentage will be getting worse service. Others will be receiving much better than average service. Use of an average conceals these discrepancies.
Better: Percentiles.
Example: 80% of customers serviced within a 24 hour period.
